Welcome to the House of Funk!

House of Funk is a new, prerecorded program on HotRocksRadio.com. Our debut show was on Sunday, January 19, 2025. It broadcasts twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, 12:00-3:00 PM US Eastern Time.

Funk is more than just a genre of music: it’s a feeling, an ethos, an attitude, an expression of joy and pain, hope and rage, love and defiance. Those who become slaves to the rhythm are emancipated.

No less an authority than Bootsy Collins, the funkiest person on the planet, says that funk is “making something out of nothing.” In absence there is presence. True funkaholics know that the funk is not in the beats but in the space between the beats—like toe jam. It’s the space that holds the beats together: when we can each be ourselves while allowing others the space to do the same, we become One (Nation Under a Groove).

Sitting atop a motherlode of funk treasures, the Groove Overlord throws down three hours of funky music—the hits, the misses, the deep cuts and rare grooves, the famous and the obscure, vocals and instrumentals, the Ol’ and Nu Skools, the slinky and the slammin’—for three hours weekly on House of Funk on HotRocksRadio.com. Fret not at the unfamiliar. Regardless of genre (soul, reggae, jazz, blues, rock, gospel, hip hop, Latin American, and more), if it meets the exacting standards of the Overlord’s Funk-o-meter, it will have a home in the capacious House of Funk.

His own sacroiliac wearied and worn down by decades of dancing to and thumping funky jamz on his bass, every week the grizzled Groove Overlord magnanimously slings slabs of funk that are good to your earhole, get your ass to wigglin’ and your neck to noddin’, stank up your interweb devices, and spread the love of the One. The Overlord intends to leave this world a little funkier than he found it.

Big ups to Sophia Varcados for the House of Funk logo and banner!
